Admission Bed
Procedure
- Confirm the expected admission and any special needs from the referring unit.
- Wash hands and make a simple unoccupied bed with clean linen.
- Fold the top bedclothes back in a pack, or fanfold them to the far side so the patient can get in easily.
- Place a mackintosh and draw sheet in the middle third.
- Check the mattress, bed rails, brakes and height, and lower the bed to the safe entry level.
- Equip the unit: locker, chair, call bell, sputum mug, urinal or bedpan and a receiver.
- Place the observation chart, fluid chart and folder holder at the bed.
- Add any anticipated equipment — oxygen point, suction, drip stand or bed cradle.
- Check the light, fan and screen work, then report the bed ready in the bed-state book.
